the five element theory

is a Chinese theory from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that describes the interactions &

relationship between all things, including the five elements:

fire - earth - metal - water - wood

What is the Earth Element? It's all about coming home to yourself... It's easy to feel worried or stressed in a day, even if it's not a global pandemic and you can't see your friends as much as you used to. When we let go of our worry and recenter we are tapping into the earth element. This helps us to digest our emotions and our thoughts, so that we can feel grounded.

What is the Water Element? When we think of water, maybe we think of drinking a glass of water or taking a shower. Maybe we consider the oceans, lakes, rivers, rain, and even snow. Whichever the element inspires in you, it reminds us to rest, restore, and flow. You've seen it, the water takes the path of least resistance, a puddle flows where more water goes.

What is the Metal Element? The idea of metal will likely make you think of machinery or buildings. Metal in our world creates structure, it holds things together, it defines the space within and around us. This element at its core is about setting boundaries, creating space, and having courage.

What is the Wood Element? Some of our most common image of wood is typically a forest of trees. Rarely are they small and just beginning to grow. More often than not the visual is one of tall trees of any variety, touching the sky above us. They grow upward, sometimes hundreds of feet, defying any concept of gravity. The wood element is about just that, growth and creation!

What is the Fire Element? Words associated with fire include heat, burning, and ignition. We experience fire when light a flame to warm up, when we start the engine of a car, or when we cook our food. It is the spirit of igniting our hearts, connecting and forging things and people together, and the experience of joy and love.
